# Deleting your account

> How to delete your PayGlue account, what gets removed, and step-up confirmation.

## Deleting your account

Go to **Settings > Preferences** and open the **Danger zone** at the bottom. Click **Delete account**, type your email address to confirm, then complete [step-up confirmation](#step-up-confirmation).

  Deletion is immediate and cannot be undone — there is no grace period or recovery window for the account itself.

## What gets deleted

* Your profile and sign-in account
* Any publication you solely own, along with its connections, paywalls, buy buttons, pricing tables, and product mappings
* Stored payment provider credentials and webhook history

## What doesn't get deleted

* **Your Ghost site and its members** — that data lives in your own Ghost instance, not in PayGlue.
* **Invoices and payment records** — these are held by your payment provider (the merchant of record), not by PayGlue, and they're legally required to retain them. PayGlue has no invoices of its own to delete.
* A copy of your data may still exist in encrypted backups for up to 7 days after deletion, until that backup cycle rolls over.

After deletion, you land on a goodbye page — there's nothing further to do, and feedback there goes to us by email only.

## Step-up confirmation

Some actions are sensitive enough that PayGlue asks you to reconfirm your identity right before you take them, even though you're already signed in. This is called step-up confirmation, and today it covers exactly two actions:

* Deleting your account
* Confirming an [ownership transfer](/account/team-members#transferring-ownership)

If you have an authenticator app (TOTP) enrolled, step-up asks for a code from it. Otherwise, PayGlue emails you a 6-digit code (valid 10 minutes, up to 5 attempts). Each step-up confirmation is single-use and only valid for the one action you started it for.
